Watch The First Trailer For Ghostbusters: Afterlife

It’s been 30 years since Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis last suited up to fight the supernatural, and now after all these years the series is finally getting a proper sequel.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife was announced earlier this year, and it had everyone buzzing. After all, the 2016 all-female version bombed both critically and at the box office. This new sequel will allegedly not tie-in to that particular film, but instead be a sequel to the original pair of films from the 80s. Most of the original cast are returning as well, but it’s not said how big their roles will be. The only ones not returning are Harold Ramis, who passed away in 2014 and Rick Moranis who has retired from making films and in most cases, appearances as well. Joining the cast will be Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd.

Afterlife appears to have left New York City behind, which was the setting for the first two films. Instead this one looks to take place in a rural, small town setting. The only plotline given is “A single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.” From the trailer it appears as if the grandfather is Ramis’ character Egon. The kids, unaware of their grandfather’s past, stumbles across his props from the past, including the proton packs, ghost traps, jumpsuits, and the iconic vehicle Ecto-1.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is written and directed by Jason Reitman, son of the original film’s director Ivan Reitman. Dan Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman are both heavily involved with the franchise restart. The film is set to be released on July 10, 2020.
