TIFF 2019 Galas And Special Presentations Announced

Last week TIFF announced that the documentary Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band was set to be their opening night film for the 2019 edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, and yesterday they started giving us an idea of what else we can expect by announcing their Galas and Special Presentations.

Among the announced films are some of the falls most highly anticipated releases. From origin story Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Batman nemesis, to the murder mystery Knives Out which stars Christopher Plummer, Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Michael Shannon and Don Johnson and the Jennifer Lopez led Hustlers about a group of New York strippers who rip off Wall Street brokers, the festival has a little something for everyone. Hustlers is inspired by a real story, as are several other of the announced films like A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Harriet, Dolemite is My Name, Judy, I Am Woman, Just Mercy and Ford v Ferrari.

Every year the festival showcases films that are typically up for Oscar contention, and this year will be no different. Several of the films are also having their world or North American debuts as well, which means people who don’t want to wait for the theatrical release will more than likely try to catch them during the festival.

While many of the films star big name a-list actors such as Tom Hanks, Eddie Murphy, Scarlett Johansson and Robert Pattinson, it doesn’t necessarily mean they will be attending the festival. Of course there is a decent chance they will, considering their films are getting the red carpet treatment, which means the guessing game among the fans will soon begin and line-ups will start hours before the movies begin.
