Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield To Play Televangelists Jim And Tammy Faye Bakker

If you lived through the 70s and 80s and owned a TV, at some point you probably came across televangelists Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. At the height of their fame they were everywhere, and subject to all the gossip and scandal magazines that the Kardashians are today. Eventually though their empire fell apart, and their lives became significantly less interesting. Now however they are about to hit the spotlight once again, as Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield are set to star as them in the Fox Searchlight biopic The Eyes of Tammy Faye.

The Eyes of Tammy Faye is based on the documentary of the same name, and will explore the rise, fall and the rise, fall and eventual redemption of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, and will be directed by The Big Sick helmer Michael Showalter. You will get to see how the pair rose from humble beginnings, to create their empire. Everything from the world’s largest religious broadcasting network to even a theme park will be covered. And of course the film will also look at the financial improprieties, scheming rivals, and sexual scandal that not only tore their marriage apart, but toppled their empire as well.

Chastain has signed on to produce the film as well as star in it. The actress has X-Men: Dark Phoenix and It: Chapter 2 on her schedule of movies to be released this year, and her film Eve has already finished filming as well. She has several films on tap as well though, including George and Tammy in which she will play country music legend Tammy Wynette.

Andrew Garfield on the other hand hasn’t been as active in the film scene, but has instead been honing his skills on Broadway instead. He was recently the star of the adaptation of Angels in America, for which he won a Tony award.
