Avengers: Endgame Shatters Records On Route To A $1.2 Billion Global Debut

They say records are made to be broken, but Avengers: Endgame has not only decimated the previous box office records, it set the bar so high that any film may have a hard time breaking them in the future. The film grossed over $350 million domestically and over $1.2 billion worldwide in just its first five days in release.

Heading into the weekend expectations were high that Avengers: Endgame was going to smash records. After last year’s Avengers: Infinity War left audiences on a cliffhanger, it’s not surprising why that was. And then after the first reviews starting coming out, all glowing about how the film was the ultimate superhero film, you just had to know good things were going to happen.

Here are just some of the records the film has already broken:

Largest Thursday Previews: $60 million
Previous Record: $57 million (Star Wars: The Force Awakens)
Largest Friday, Opening Day and Single Day: $156.7 million
Previous Record: $119.1 million (Star Wars: The Force Awakens)
Largest Saturday: $109 million
Previous Record: $82.1 million (Avengers: Infinity War)
Largest Sunday: $84.3 million
Previous Record: $69.2 million (Avengers: Infinity War)
Domestic Opening Weekend: $350 million
Previous Record: $257.69 million (Avengers: Infinity War)
International Opening Weekend: $859 million
Previous Record: $443.15 million (The Fate of the Furious)
Worldwide Opening Weekend: $1.2 billion
Previous Record: $640.5 million (Avengers: Infinity War)

The film is on track to becoming one of the highest grossing films of all time, but only time will tell if it has enough gas to become the highest. Right now the record holder for highest domestic gross is Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $936.6 million. For worldwide, the record holder is James Cameron’s Avatar with $2.7 billion. We’ll have a clearer picture after next weekend, when we see how much the film makes after being out for a week. Big blockbuster films typically see a fairly steep drop after the first week, but with many theaters being sold out for this film, next weekend may be a pretty big haul once again.
