Green Book And Bohemian Rhapsody Take Home Top Movie Awards At 2019 Golden Globes

Green Book was certainly the story of TIFF 2018, taking home the People’s Choice Award, but it was very unclear how the film would perform at Awards shows. If the Golden Globes are any indication, the film is in for quite a run. The Peter Farrelly film took home three awards, including Best Musical/Comedy and Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for Mahershala Ali, and it now it looks like it might just be one of the favourites heading into the Oscars.

One of the biggest surprises of the evening was the lack of awards for A Star Is Born. The film was one of the favorites going in, with five nominations, and only came out with one win for Best Original Song. Lady Gaga lost out on the Best Actress Award to The Wife star Glenn Close, the film lost Best Drama to Bohemian Rhapsody, and Bradley Cooper lost twice, once to Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek for Best Actor, and once to Roma Director Alfonso Cuarón.

And the oddest speech of the night has to go to Christian Bale, who thanked Satan for inspiring his role as Dick Chaney in the film Vice. Don’t ask, you just have to see it to believe it.

On the Television side of things, the Netflix series The Kominsky Method, and the FX miniseries The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story each had two wins to lead the way. The Americans won Best Drama, but failed to win any acting awards. The biggest surprise when it comes to acting, was Patricia Arquette taking home the Best Actress award for Escape at Dannemora. She was in a category filled with heavyweights, including Amy Adams and Regina King, but shocked everyone by winning.
