Reese Witherspoon In Talks For Legally Blonde 3
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 15 years since Reese Witherspoon starred as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde. With all the revivals lately though, including an upcoming Bill & Ted 3, it’s not too surprising that studios would be looking through their catalogs for possible franchises to bring back. Legally Blonde could be a fun trip down memory lane too, for fans of Witherspoon that is.
The first Legally Blonde movie came out in 2001, and while it wasn’t Witherspoon’s first role or first hit, it was her breakthrough role, and the first where she was the lead on the film. It follows the story of a sorority queen who gets dumped by her boyfriend, and decides to follow him to law school. It’s there she finds that there is much more to herself than just looks. The film went on to make over $141 million worldwide, with the sequel pulling in over $124 million. The film series also spawned a hit touring musical that helped keep the film series popular, long after they’d been released.
If the film does move forward, it’s expected to start production right away. Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah, who adapted the Amanda Brown novel for the first film, are expected to once again write the script. Original producer Marc Platt will also return, to produce alongside Witherspoon.
Since the release of the second Legally Blonde film, Witherspoon has went on to be nominated for two Oscars for acting, winning one of them for her role in Walk The Line. She is currently reprising her role of Madeline Martha Mackenzie on HBO’s Big Little Lies for the second season, a role she was nominated for an Emmy for last year.
