Robert Downey Jr. Set To Star In Sherlock Holmes 3

After 2011’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows ended with a world wide box office gross of over $545 million, you could almost here the titular character saying “elementary” if he had been asked about whether or not a sequel was coming. Yet, nothing came. Until now.

It took seven years for the announcement to come that there would be a third Sherlock Holmes film starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, but now that it’s come we have to wait a couple more years to actually see it. Warner Bros. Pictures announced on Monday that the third installment was coming, but not until Christmas 2020. Guy Ritchie directed the first two films, but his name hasn’t been given as the director for the third film. That may still come, but as of yet there is no word on who will direct it.

The Sherlock Holmes films have grossed well over $1 billion worldwide. Robert Downey Jr. starred in the 2009 film shortly after he made a huge career come back with Iron Man. A sequel was quickly released in 2011, but didn’t fair as well. At this point it also isn’t known if leading ladies Rachel McAdams or Noomi Rapace will return, although McAdams’ character was killed off in the sequel so if she does return it will be more than likely as a flashback.
