Bill & Ted 3 Is Officially Happening

It’s been 29 years since Bill & Ted first hit the big screen, and after years of trying for a second sequel to the hit 1989 film Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, it appears as if it is finally set to happen.

It was announced yesterday that Bill & Ted Face the Music is being shopped at Cannes. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter will reprise their iconic roles of Ted “Theodore” Logan and Bill S. Preston Esq., respectively, in a story written by original creators Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon. We spoke to Solomon in our January issue of Real Style, and at the time he told us that the third film would be about the duo being middle-aged fathers who go on a time-travelling adventure with their teenage daughters. At the time though no deal was in place, but things seem to have changed now. The story seems to be more flushed out too, with the official plot said to be Bill & Ted travelling through time, seeking inspiration on how to write the song that will become the greatest song ever written.

Bill & Ted Face The Music is currently in pre-production, and stars Reeves and Winter said in a statement that “We couldn’t be more excited to get the whole band back together again. Chris and Ed wrote an amazing script, and with Dean [Director Dean Parisot] at the helm we’ve got a dream team!”

The last film in the franchise was 1991’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, and ever since then a sequel has been rumoured to eventually happen. Back in 2010 Solomon and Matheson started writing the script, and both Reeves and Winter have repeatedly stated that they were interested in making the sequel happen. While no release date has yet to be given, the film is sure to receive a lot of attention when it does finally come out.
