Beyonce Leads The Way With 9 Grammy Nominations
The Queen Bey is leading the pack once again with nine Grammy nominations, which helped her set a new record high as the most nominated female artist in Grammy awards history.
After Beyonce’s nine nominations this year, the 35 year old singer now has a total of 62 Grammy nominations in her career. Beyonce has held the record ever since she passed Dolly Parton in 2014, and continues to add to her total every year. This year she saw nominations for album, song and record of the year for her hit song Formation on her album Lemonade. Beyonce has already won 20 Grammy awards during her twenty year old career, and is looking to add to her trophy case.
The next top nominees on the list were Drake, Rihanna and Kanye West who had 8 nominations apiece. West who has been in the news lately for his stay in the hospital for exhaustion has a total of 68 Grammy nominations now, and has won 21 over his career. His critically acclaimed album, The Life of Pablo, was released in February of this year, and was followed up by a successful tour.
Adele might have only received 5 nominations for her album 25, but 3 of them were for the top awards as well, and she will compete with Beyonce for the album, song and record of the year awards. In 2012 the British singer swept all three.
Late singers David Bowie and Prince also received posthumous nominations for the final records. Bowie passed away two days after releasing his final album Blackstar, and now has four nominations for it. Prince received one nomination for his final album Hit n Run Phase Two.
Only a handful of the 80 categories were announced live by Meghan Trainor, but the rest appeared online shortly afterwards. This year’s winners will be announced in Los Angeles on February 12th at the 59th annual Grammy Awards with first-time host James Corden.
The complete list of nominees can be found on the Grammy’s website.
