The Walking Dead Gets Renewed For Season 8
Season 7 of the hit AMC series The Walking Dead hasn’t even premiered yet (that folks we have to wait until next Sunday for) but that didn’t stop the network from announcing that an 8th season would be coming next year.
Sunday night AMC aired a two hour retrospective on their hit series The Walking Dead, and at the very start of it they made the announcement that the series would be returning next season. It’s no surprise that the zombie apocalypse series based on the comic book by Robert Kirkman was renewed, after all it is AMC’s biggest hit of all time, and one of televisions most watched series. AMC couldn’t very well let the series end with 99 episodes either, which it would have done if the seventh season was the last. Season eight is set to premiere in late 2017 (more than likely October) and the 100th episode will be the first one to air. Like the past few seasons, there will be 16 episodes in the season.
“What a joy to partner with Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple and some of the hardest-working people in television to bring The Walking Dead to the fans,” AMC boss Charlie Collier said in a released statement. “And, most important, thanks to those fans for breathing life into this remarkable series right along with us.”
Looking forward to the eighth season may not be on most fan’s minds at the moment however. They have been anxiously awaiting to find out who Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character Negan killed off in the season six finale. The controversial cliff hanger has kept fans guessing as to whether the show will kill off the same character as was killed off in the comic book in a similar scene, or if one of the others would get Negan’s bat. AMC has in recent weeks teased who it might be by releasing a scene that occurs just moments afterwards, which we know thanks to the scene isn’t Rick, but the actors and the network have both played coy on who actually does die.
The Walking Dead season 7 debuts next Sunday, October 23rd, and 9PM on AMC.
