Katheryn Winnick’s Lagertha Will Be In A Relationship With A Woman When Vikings Returns
Vikings has been one of the most popular series ever on History, and part of the reason is that the show has never been one to play it safe. One of the biggest things the series does to keep things fresh is jump forward in time, which is something that will happen once again when the series returns this fall for the second half of season 4. Like usual there will be a lot of changes after the time jump, and this time, one of the biggest changes will be with Katheryn Winnick’s Lagertha.
Vikings creator Michael Hirst talked to Entertainment Weekly, and told them that “She’s a ruler, she’s got lots of responsibility, she has ambitions beyond that, but in terms of her personal life, if she can help it, she’s not gonna get involved with another guy who’s gonna want immediately to take her earldom away from her. So she’s with a woman, who’s not going to want to do that – at least initially! She is the most wonderful, powerful, strong, independent, clever Viking woman, in a society that did allow women to rise, to have some authority. But even so, for a woman, there’s still barriers to get through, and the absolute ambition of men that would just trample you down.”
He went on to reveal that Lagertha’s lover will be a new character called Astrid, and will be played by Josefin Asplund. With all the problems Lagertha has had with men betraying her in the past, it’s not surprising for her change of heart. It will be interesting to see how this new story line plays out.
Vikings Season 4B will return in the Fall on History, and season 5 is currently in production.
