5 Movies That Could Be Rebooted With Women In The Lead Roles

The Ghostbusters Abby (Melissa McCarthy), Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon), Erin (Kristen Wiig) and Patty (Leslie Jones) inside the Mercado Hotel Lobby in Columbia Pictures' GHOSTBUSTERS.

The Ghostbusters are back, only they look a little different than they did in the 80s. That’s right, the four leads are played by women this time around, and they play it as if the original movies never existed in the first place. Replacing male leads with female leads is not a new trend, after all it can be said Star Wars did it last December when Daisy Ridley took the lead role. There are a few movies coming up that are following the same lead, and a few more we can only hope for. Here are our favourites.

Ocean’s Eleven: This heist movie is all ready moving forward. So far only Sandra Bullock has been named to star in the film, but several other actresses have been brought up as possibilities, including Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Elizabeth Banks, and Helena Bonham Carter. It’ll be interesting to see if the film has the same charm as the originals starring Matt Damon, George Clooney and Brad Pitt, but with the right cast and a good script it could be a huge hit.

James Bond: Every time an actor steps down from playing the world’s most famous super spy, rumours start getting spread of who could play the role next. The last few years there has been talk about a woman taking over the role once Daniel Craig is through with it. Can we say Jane Bond? Sounds like an intriguing concept, but can it really work?

The Expendables: When the last Expendables movie was released with  Ronda Rousey as part of the team, people started talking about the possibility of an all girl action movie of the same nature. People wanted to see Rousey team up with stars like Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz and Milla Jovovich. Sylvester Stallone recently denied any involvement with such a project, which apparently had a director attached and would be called ExpendaBelles. Will this film happen? It’s doubtful after the failure of the third Expendables movie.

Men In Black: Sure, the Men in Black franchise is somehow merging with the 21 Jump Street Project for its next big screen incarnation, but wouldn’t it be interesting to see a female version come about as well? That might just help give the series a real boost. Women in Black could be a huge hit!

Fast & Furious: This could be a fun series to do a female reboot with. Angelina Jolie did the car thief before in Gone in 60 Seconds, and it was fun back then. The series has always featured some strong women driving fast cars before, so why not do an entire movie based around them?
