While the endless days and warm temperatures of spring may still be weeks away, movie buffs can always embrace the snowy spirit in the air with a perfect seasonal flick. Whether you’re currently curled up by the fireplace on your ski vacation or hiding from the elements in your bedroom, a snow-themed movie can help you savour the frost in the air. Here are a few of our favourite films to get you in the mood for a snow day now.

Hanna (2011): In Joe Wright’s action thriller, Saoirse Ronan stars as the protagonist Hanna, a smart young girl who knows the wild landscape of northern Finland as her home. Hanna’s father Erik Heller (played by Eric Bana) is a former CIA operative who has raised his daughter in isolation and groomed her to be a leading assassin. However, Hanna soon finds herself escaping the snowy scenery and venturing across Europe as senior CIA agent Marissa Wiegler (Cate Blanchett) tracks her every move.

The Grey (2011): This action-adventure movie directed by Joe Carnahan takes place in the frigid setting of Alaska, and introduces audiences to a group of oilmen who are stranded in the frozen destination. As John Ottway, Liam Neeson plays an oil driller who is attacked by a dangerous grey wolf, and must figure out a way for himself and his fellow men to survive.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004): Director Michel Gondry’s romantic sci-fi drama brings audiences into the world of Joel Barish (Jim Carrey) and Clementine Kruczynski (Kate Winslet), two former lovers who have had their memories erased. However, Joel and Clementine later become attracted to each other while on a train trip. The film features a snowy beach and a frozen lake setting, which surprisingly heats up the couple’s renewed romance in an unexpected way.

The Shining (1980): Based on the novel by Stephen King, Stanley Kubrick’s now cult favourite psychological horror flick introduces us to a family trapped at the eerie, abandoned Overlook Hotel in the midst of a snowstorm. Jack Nicholson stars as Jack Torrance, a writer who is working as a caretaker at the hotel. Along with his wife (played by Shelley Duvall) and his son Danny (Danny Lloyd), Jack soon realized that a haunting evil presence has made its entrance.
