And The Most Overpaid Actor Of 2015 Is… Johnny Depp
Forbes has named their most overpaid actor of 2015, and it’s no longer Adam Sandler who topped the list the last two years. Unfortunately that leaves a space for a new actor to top the chart, and unfortunately for Johnny Depp, it’s him.
Depp was second on last year’s list, and things got worse for him instead of better. Two of his latest movies, Mortdecai and Transcendence saw a return of $1.20 for every $1.00 he was paid. That’s pretty slim pickings. Mortdecai saw a gross of $47.3 million, of which only $7.7 million was made in north America. That may not seem too bad, but considering it cost $60 million to make, it ended up losing money.
Depp’s losing streak at the box office should end in 2016, with Alice Through the Looking Glass and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales both expected to be huge hits for Disney set to be released.
The annual list is created by examining the last three movies each actor starred in before June 2015, and it excludes all animated films and film in limited release. In second place on the list is Denzel Washington whose movies made only $6.50 per $1 earned. His film The Equalizer wasn’t a flop, but his over inflated salary bumped him up on the list. Will Ferrell was in third place with $6.80 per $1 earned.
Several other A-Listers made the list, including Liam Neeson, Will Smith, Channing Tatum, Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck and Tom Cruise. See the full list below for more details.
