Rachel McAdams And Jake Gyllenhaal Delight Toronto Crowds At The Southpaw Premiere
Rachel McAdams couldn’t have been more gracious when the crowd went wild for Jake Gyllenhaal and she had to interrupt her interview. Laughing it off, she waited until the yelling went down and continued telling the various reporters on the red carpet how she got ready for the boxing movie and what it was like working with Jake Gyllenhaal. “You have to bring your A game,” she said.
Jake Gyllenhaal in the meantime sporting a mean beard and slicked back hair, made reporters laugh when he mentioned working out twice a day for 5 months being an equivalent of one workout a day for 10 months. The actor who put on 35 pounds of muscle for the role, felt passionate about his role as a boxer making his way back or rather fighting his way back after hitting rock bottom. “I have finally recovered – a year later” said Gyllenhaal about the intense physical commitment.
The Hollywood A listers were joined by Canadian boxing A listers – the former heavyweight champion of the world Lennox Lewis, and George Chuvalo who was a five time Canadian heavyweight champion and who is best known for his two fights with Muhammad Ali and not getting knocked out. Lennox promised to be brutally honest with Gyllenhaal about his performance in the movie. “Boxing separates the boys from the men,” quipped Lennox.
Southpaw opens nationwide on July24.
