The Devil Wears Prada – The Musical?

The hit 2006 movie, The Devil Wears Prada, may be hitting a stage near you soon. The movie, which is based on the novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, starred Anne Hathaway as a new graduate who finds herself working for a demanding editor-in-chief of a high fashion magazine, played by Meryl Streep. It grossed over $124 million dollars over its theatrical run, and the novel spawned a sequel in 2013 called Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns. Now it looks as though a new Broadway musical adaptation of the movie may be in the works.

Top Broadway producer Kevin McCollum told the Associated Press that he hopes to give the film the stage treatment. In 2013 McCollum entered a partnership with 20th Century Fox, who owns the rights of the film, and he has started producing stage versions of their films. Ever After is set to begin performances later this month, and after that the 4 time Tony Award winning producer hopes to start work on The Devil Wears Prada and Mrs. Doubtfire.

If The Devil Wears Prada does indeed see its time on a Broadway stage you can expect it to do well, but it may be difficult to replicate Meryl Streep’s Oscar nominated performance as Miranda Priestly. Only time will tell.
