Emma Stone And Steve Carell To Star As Legendary Tennis Stars Billie Jean King And Bobby Riggs

26 year old Emma Stone wasn’t even born in 1973 when Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs made history and competed against each other in an epic tennis match, but she’s now signed on to play the tennis star.  Opposing her will be Steve Carell, who has signed on to play Riggs.

King, who was 29 at the time and the No. 2 ranked female tennis player in 1973 when the 55 year old Riggs challenged her to a match.  He’d challenged King earlier in the year and she declined, but after he handily defeated Margaret Court she decided to take him up on the challenge.  Dubbed the Battle of the Sexes, the tennis match had a $100,000 winner take all prize, and when King won Riggs retreated from the spotlight.

The movie is to be called Battle of the Sexes, and it has been in the works for several years.  Billie Jean King has been cooperating with the project, but Riggs unfortunately passed away in 1995.  The movie is said to the the third project based on the historical match, but will be the first one to be made.
