Ghostbusters Getting A Second Reboot Starring Channing Tatum
It wasn’t too long ago (the end of January to be exact) that the cast for Paul Feig’s female-centric Ghostbusters movie was announced. It had been rumoured for some time that the sequel to the popular 80’s series would be getting a female reboot, and with production starting up in June we can expect to see it hit theatres in 2016. Now however there is a new twist. It was announced yesterday that a second reboot is coming as well, and this one will star Channing Tatum.
Deadline.com broke the news that a couple of the original Ghostbusters creators Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd would be forming a new production company called Ghostcorps, that would help created new branding opportunities for the movie. Their first act of business was to sign up Joe and Anthony Russo to direct the movie, with Channing Tatum signed on to not only produce the film, but star in it as well.
Ivan Reitman told Deadline that “We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment. Paul Feig’s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world … the second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that.”
Sounds like a good idea to us, but will it be too many Ghostbusters too quickly? Only time will tell.
