Aliyah O’Brien Talks Her Role In New Syfy Mini-series ‘Ascension’

C-native Aliyah O’Brien has come a long way from her lead in the 2010 CBC sitcom, Men With Brooms. Since, O’Brien has landed countless other roles including a coveted spot on Rookie Blue as Holly Stewart in seasons 4 and 5 as Gail’s (Charlotte Sullivan) on-again off-again girlfriend. Her portrayal as one of half the lovable lesbian romance is still receiving praise from the LGBTQ community, via social media. Like Real Style, the Canadian star also fosters a great appreciation for homegrown talent, “We’ve got great people in Canada. I mean, there are great people everywhere but I’m always blown away at the talent and the humility in Canadian actors,” says O’Brien.

Real Style got the chance to speak with the proud Canadian star about Ascension, who was tight-lipped about the highly anticipated series. O’Brien is set to appear in three episodes as Eva Marceau, a complex character in this new world known as Proximia. She explains that while she’d love to dish some deets to our readers, there are too many big reveals within the 6 episodes that she just can’t spoil, “It’s very thriller-y, you don’t know what’s going to happen and then BOOM!” says O’Brien.

O’Brien gushes about her wonderful time on set, and hopes the series will be well received and renewed for a full order for the next year.  “The actors are fantastic. I got to work with Laura Lee Smith who is from Toronto, Tricia Helfer, Gil Bellows – there is so much talent in the cast. It’s a great story; I’m excited to see it come to life,” says O’Brien.

Catch the premiere of Ascension tonight (Dec. 15th) at 9:00 P.M on SyFy.
