Keanu Reeves Is Still At The Top Of His Game In John Wick

John WickTo say Keanu Reeves has had a versatile career would be putting it mildly.  From drama to comedy to action flicks, the Canadian raised actor has dipped his feet in them all.  With John Wick he returns to action, which is arguably his most successful genre.  Hopefully it helps push him to the top once more.

John Wick’s plot is simple, an ex-hitman comes out of retirement seeking revenge on the son of a Russian mobster who killed his dog and stole his car.  The former being the last gift from his recently deceased wife.  If you are looking for anything more than a simple revenge inspired movie, you are definitely in the wrong cinema.  One of the many things this movie does right, is that it doesn’t try to over explain things, or try to add subplots that would turn the flick into a convoluted mess.  It keeps things simple from start to end.  Keanu Reeves is a man on a mission, determined to find who he is looking for so he can kill him and head back into retirement.   The movie is slick, stylish and thrilling from start to finish, but it is not for the faint of heart because it is also extremely violent.  The fight scenes are intense and fun to watch, and the choreography is top notch.  The movie has a slight feel of the 1999 Mel Gibson movie Payback, in that you find yourself cheering for a not-so-nice guy who single-handedly takes down a criminal organization looking for revenge, but these kinds of movies come so few and far between that you don’t mind the small similarities.

If you are looking for a good action flick that will help you unwind after a difficult week, John Wick is it.  It’s even worth paying the little bit extra to watch the movie on the IMAX screen.
