TV’s Most Lovable Geeks

Whether they’re wearing outrageous and ill-fitting ensembles, constantly ranting about their favourite scientists, or just being their witty and unconventional selves, we all have our favourite on-screen geeks. From Sheldon Cooper on The Big Theory to the hilarious Mindy from The Mindy Project, here’s a round-up of our five favourite awkward and quirky TV characters:

Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) on The Big Bang Theory: As Sheldon, Jim Parsons proves that no matter how unwelcoming or socially awkward a character is, he can still have a charming and lovable side! We love Sheldon despite (or maybe because of) his obsessive-compulsive ways, know-it-all nature, and nerdy interests. After all, this top TV geek did coin the term “Bazinga!”- which makes him a creative genius in our books!

Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling) on The Mindy Project: Played by sassy comedienne Mindy Kaling on the show, Dr. Mindy Lahiri is an ob-gyn with a serious side and an amusing edge. We have to admire a bold and spirited girl who balances her career, love life, passion for rap music, and hatred of dieting and exercise with a vibrant sense of humour.

The Doctor (David Tennant) on Doctor Who: As a time-travelling alien/human hybrid, the Doctor is a top pick on our list for a much-beloved geek on the small screen. The hit BBC series simply wouldn’t be complete without his knowledge of time and space or his eccentric ways.

Michael Scott (Steve Carrell) on The Office: After the popular NBC series wrapped up last year after nine seasons, we said farewell to wacky manager Michael Scott of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. With his sassy remarks, bold-faced attempts at humour, and lack of maturity, Michael quickly became a much-loved TV boss despite his geeky tendencies.

Señor Ben Chang (Ken Jeong)  on Community: As a Spanish instructor and later a student at Greendale Community College on the popular NBC sitcom, Ben Chang is an entertaining yet evil sensation. Although he’s proven to be unbalanced and egotistical, Chang is always perfect for offering a much-needed laugh on the series as he struggles to fit in with campus life.
