Top 5 Winter Movies

With the chill of winter having arrived, now is as good of a time as any to watch a movie that takes place in winter.  After all who wants to see snow on their screen when it’s nice and hot outside?  We’ve compiled our list of our favourite movies that take place in winter.

Fargo– Inept criminals, a pregnant sheriff, and a hair brained scheme are the central focus of this Coen Brothers movie.  Even though the duo won an Academy Award for No Country For Old Men,Fargois by far the better movie and one you can watch over and over again.

The Shining – Even though the Stanley Kubrick movie about a haunted hotel inColoradodiffers vastly from the original Stephen King novel, it is still a classic thanks in no small part to the excellent acting of Jack Nicholson.  It will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe – This C.S. Lewis classic has been adapted many times, with the 2005 version being the most recent.  It sees four kids travel to the magical world of Narnia where they attempt to put an end to a tyrannical witch’s reign and end winter for the first time in a long time.

Groundhog Day – Bill Murray is great as weatherman Phil, who is forced to live the same day over and over again.  Not only will you find yourself laughing at the events of the film, but you’ll find yourself wondering what you’d do if it happened to you.

A Simple Plan – Sam Raimi is well known for making movies that are a little different than the average fare, and this movie definitely fits the bill.  In it three friends make a pact to keep millions of dollars of lost money that they found in a plane crash hidden until no one is looking for it anymore.  Of course things don’t work out the way they planned.
