Beauty And The Beast 3D – Movie Review

When Beauty and the Beast was released in 1991 it was so good that it became the first ever animated feature to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. It’s also been converted into a long running Broadway play that received a Tony nomination for best Musical. For many it’s one of the best Disney movies of all time, and after the Lion King’s successful re-release in 3D last year it’s no surprise that Beauty and the Beast was up next for the same sort of treatment. The only question is of course is has 3D run its course, or are people still interested in seeing their favourite movies converted to the format.

For those who don’t all ready know, Beauty and the Beast is a ‘tale as old as time’. It’s based on the fairy tale of the same name and follows the story of Belle, a beautiful yet odd girl from a small village. After her father is taken prisoner by a reclusive Beast Belle offers herself in exchange, promising to stay with the beast for all time. The Beast of course is looking for a woman to fall in love with, so that he can break the curse that has been placed on him and turn back into the handsome young prince he was before. The catch is that she must fall in love with him as well, before the last petal drops from the enchanted rose on his 21st birthday. It’s a race not only against time, but also against Gaston, an arrogant man from the village who is also in love with Belle and has determined that nothing can stand in his way to her heart.

Beauty and the Beast is a fantastic movie that deserves to be seen in the theatre. The animation is truly gorgeous, and the songs get stuck in your head for days to come. It’s no wonder that this movie was so well received in the past, and with this re-release the newest generation may fall in love with it as well. In this case the 3D conversion actually works. It helps bring you into the cartoon world, and be a part of things. The opening cartoon, based on the world of Tangled, is also very funny and does a great job of preparing you for what is to come.

Pack your kids up and head out to see this one if you are looking for a family event this weekend. Even if you are looking for a trip down memory lane this would be a great choice. Beauty and the Beast is a special movie that should never be forgotten.
