Gerard Butler Receives Death Threats Over TIFF Film
300 star Gerard Butler has received death threats over his film Machine Gun Preacher. The Scottish Daily Record reports that the actor was “forced to hire ex-servicemen as bodyguards to protect him at the films launch at the Toronto Film Festival.”
What the nature of the threats were have not been released, but a source from inside the film company responsible for the movie said “It is quite a controversial subject and some people are upset by the strong religious theme. We are treating this matter seriously.”
Machine Gun Preacher is the true story of Sam Childers, a former Hell’s Angel who found Christianity and rescued orphans from the Muslim dominated Sudan. It is a violent and disturbing movie at times, but has received decent reviews from critics. The film isn’t due to hit theaters until November.
