Desperate Housewives To End In May

After 8 seasons, the popular ABC show Desperate Housewives will end in May.  “This season of #DesperateHousewives will be the last. We will miss those ladies on Wisteria Lane but can’t wait to see the final season!” ABC tweeted on Sunday.

The news was broken by the show creator Marc Cherry and ABC president Paul Lee during the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour.   “I wanted to go out when the network still saw us as a viable show and a force to contend with,” Cherry said. “We felt from a creative standpoint that this was the right time. I feel so good about it.”  Lee added “It’s an iconic show and we’re extremely proud of it.  I just wanted to make sure it had its victory lap.”

Desperate Housewives began in 2004, and was an instant hit.  Even though it has seen it’s number decline in recent years, it still has 51.6 million viewers internationally.  The series follows the lives of a group of women who live on Wisteria Lane, and stars Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria and Felicity Huffman.

The final season of Desperate Housewives begins on September 25th.
