Though the Spring 2017 shows at New York Fashion Week are coming to a close, the bold and innovative beauty looks seen so far on the runways are sure to make a lasting impact. Over the past week, the runways of New York have seen an amazingly diverse range of beauty trends, with models displaying everything from bare faces to statement eyes. Here are a few of our favourite beauty looks that have debuted at NYFW Spring 2017 so far.

“No makeup” makeup

The fresh, makeup-free faces that have stormed countless runways offer a youthful, minimalist vibe which says”I woke up like this”. At Alexander Wang, models walked down the runway with bleached eyebrows and lightly applied concealer and foundation. Meanwhile, at Jason Wu, makeup artists contrasted the bare faces by highlighting one statement feature such as orange lips or dewy eyes. Oscar de la Renta followed a similar route by choosing to keep models free of makeup, with the exception of accentuated, messy brows.

Bright eyeshadow

If the bare-faced look isn’t quite to your liking, you may prefer the bold and beautiful eyes which can be spotted on a number of runways. At Jeremy Scott, both the eyelid and under eye were covered with a bright pop of colour, while at Jill Stuart, models wore dual-toned eyeshadow in clashing tones such as violet and soft orange. Makeup artists at Christian Siriano took a more subtle approach to the coloured statement eye, by lining models’ lids with a simple swipe of aqua eye pencil.

Slicked, gelled hair

A spin-off of the wet hair trend, many runways featured a gelled, sleek hair-do. At Altuzarra, hair was slicked back into a chic pompadour style, with gelled pieces teased atop the head creating a volumized look. Meanwhile, at Thakoon, hair was pulled back into heavily gelled buns, save for one shiny piece styled in front of the models’ faces. Models at Victoria Beckham displayed a much more wearable version of this trend, with pin-straight hair parted in the middle and lightly slicked into submission.

The French manicure re-imagined

The Spring 2017 runways took the iconic French manicure and gave it a fully revamped spin, offering the popular nail design a modern update. At Rebecca Minkoff, nails had the traditional white tip, but instead of a nude, the base was painted a luxurious red. At Tanya Taylor, the nails had a nude base, but were accented by blue and orange semi circles and lines. Nails at Creatures of Comfort were the most similar to the classic French manicure, keeping the traditional nude base but replacing the white tip with rainbow hues instead.
