Although the world of beauty is increasingly becoming futuristic, the latest tech savvy innovation in makeup involves a pen which claims to simplify your beauty routine. Called the Mink Pen, this new product is the brainchild of Harvard graduate Grace Choi, who also created a 3D beauty printer in 2014.

According to Refinery29.com, the pen claims to utilize an app which can identify the CMY colour value shades of cyan, magenta, and yellow in a makeup tone. Next, the technology aims to colour match shades which are spotted in photos, and allow beauty lovers to create matching products. The app will provide a code, while the pen itself is used to take this colour combination into account and craft similar tones of makeup.

To actually create similar makeup, users must measure and pour in the correct ratio of cyan, magenta and yellow colours into the pen. Next, the colours are combined with a specially created powder and can be converted into lip, eye and cheek shades.

For makeup mavens who are constantly coming across unique lipstick, eyeshadow or blush shades on Instagram, this just may prove to be a helpful new method. After all, the pen and the accompanying app are designed to take a closer look at eye-catching colours and draw beauty inspiration from them.

Choi explains the process of using the Mink Pen in a YouTube video, which walks viewers through the technique. Here’s a closer look at the clip:
