For beauty addicts who struggle with coarse, unmanageable underarm hair, it may be a daily struggle to remove those troublesome follicles with a classic razor and shaving cream! After all, the recent balmy temperatures of summer have called for sleeveless styles and plenty of bare skin on display.
A new form of hair removal technology called MiraSmooth claims to use microwave energy to permanently cut back on the growth of armpit hair. Developed by medical aesthetic device company Miramar Labs, the MiraSmooth claims to work on all skin tones and hair textures.
With the help of a laser, the device states that it targets the glands that produce sweat. It works under the layers of the skin by adding heat, and also focuses primarily on the roots of the hair.
However, MiraSmooth claims to protect the skin, despite the microwave energy which is in effect. In June, the device was officially cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in the United States. The MiraSmooth treatments are set to be available for use from this month.
According to Dr. Jeremy Brauer of the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York, the technology has seen a “stable axillary hair reduction of approximately 70% regardless of color.”
On social media, the new MiraSmooth treatment has also made a splash, with users sharing snapshots of their treatments. Of course, this new process of literally microwaving away unwanted body hair is said to come with some pain and redness after the procedure. However, only time will tell if women will abandon their shaving cream for MiraSmooth- or if this microwave treatment is simply the latest in extreme beauty moves.
