Whitney Port Talks Beauty and Health With Real Style Magazine
You may remember Whitney Port from her popular MTV reality shows like The Hills and The City, but Whitney moved quickly from reality star to fashion player. The quintessential California girl combines West Coast ease with urban polish when it comes to her personal style, which is now available for purchase through her clothing line Whitney Eve. The line launched in 2008 recently debuted at Nordstrom this fall.
We had the chance to speak to the designer, and author of style book True Whit, who shared her favourite beauty products and health routine with us.
Real Style: You’re so gorgeous, how do you look after your skin?
Whitney: Not really! I have a new resolution that I made to myself, not to pick. Because if I start picking I’ll just go crazy on it, and you just start to pick the smallest things that are really nothing.
My favourite products are by a company called The Finer Skin Institute. I use a Panthenol Cleanser, a Hydrating Mist Toner and then a BioHydrating Moisturizing cream and they’re really not that expense. I don’t think any of them are more than $25 and they’re just great. They smell good, they feel good and they make my skin as even as anything and I get the least amount of breakouts with it.
RS: What about hair?
W: Well I just cut off my hair above my shoulders. I think I did it in May. So there’s not really much hair to look after, but I have been using a Khiels olive oil shampoo and conditioner and then I use It’s a 10 leave in spray and then their oil. And lately, I let it dry naturally because there’s not much to do, or I put it half-up half-down.
RS: What spurred the cut?
W: I was just so sick of my long hair. I feel like I was looking in the mirror and I was just kind of seeing the same thing for the past 15 years of my life. I’ve always had long hair so I just wanted to do it. I’m glad I did. I mean, I’m going to grow it out a little bit more, but I’m happy that I did it ‘cause I was thinking about it for a while and I would have inevitably done it.
RS: Do you get regular facials and stuff?
W: I would say every 2-3 months, so not that regular, but I go to a woman called Nicole Hershman in Santa Monica. She has her own private thing going on in the back of a salon and she takes good care of me.
RS: Did you go to anybody in particular for your cut?
W: Yeah! I go to Anh Co Tran at Ramirez Tran Salon in LA and he’s just the go-to guy for the short blunt cuts. And then Johnny Ramirez does my colour.
RS: How do you keep so lean?
W: I’m 5’10’’ so I’m pretty tall. I try to exercise 5 days a week. So I’ll wake up early and I’ll go to a spin class usually, that’s right around the corner from my place and then I’ll try to fit in a little bit of yoga here and there just for stretching and lengthening.
RS: Are you careful about food? Or do you just exercise it all away?
W: No, I’m pretty careful about food. I try to eat healthy. Everything in moderation – I allow myself to indulge in things but I really don’t gorge. I don’t go crazy, so everything in moderation.
RS: What is your favourite indulgence?
W: Probably my obsession with manicures and pedicures. I definitely don’t need them as much as I go, but it’s just one of my favourite relaxing things to do.
