DIY Face Masks For Every Skin Type

Cooking your way to beautiful skin? You got it! Making your own face masks is not only simple and affordable, but also ensures that you know all the ingredients and what you’re putting on your skin. All you need is the right ingredients–most of which can be found in your kitchen and pantry. Here are three DIY face mask recipes to try, based on skin type:

Oily skin

This mask will help to cleanse, clear acne and blemishes, nourish and tone your skin.

What you will need:

1 Apple

Lemon juice

½ Tsp. of sage

½ Tsp. of rosemary


  • Boil the apple until it becomes slightly soft, then put it in a food processor.
  • Add a couple of drops of lemon juice along with sage and the rosemary.
  • Continue to blend the mixture until everything is well combined and it turns into a smooth paste.

How to use:

Apply the mixture to your face and neck avoiding the eye area. Leave it on for 20 minutes and rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Apply this face mask once a week.


Dry Skin

This mask is going to help moisturize your skin, leaving it nice and smooth.

What you will need:

1 Tbsp. of oatmeal

1 Tbsp. of fennel seeds

1 Tbsp. of honey


  • Add 1 tbsp. of fennel seeds to a ½ cup of boiling water and allow the seeds to steep for about 10 minutes.
  • Grind 1 tbsp. of oatmeal in a blender.
  • After the 10 minute mark, strain the fennel seed liquid and discard the seeds.
  • Once it has cooled down to room temperature, combine the fennel seed liquid with the oatmeal and add 1 tbsp. of honey and mix everything together.

How to use it:

Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water, followed by a cool rinse to close up your pores.

You can use this mask twice a week.


For All Skin Types

Whether you have oily, dry or combination skin, this mask is great for all skin types. It promises to leave skin looking fresh by brightening your skin and eliminating dullness and puffiness.

What you will need:

4 Tbsp. of already ground coffee (you can grind your own espresso or coffee beans)

4 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder

8 Tbsp. of any of dairy product (you can use milk, cream, unflavored yogurt, coconut milk, or almond milk)

2 Tbsp. of either honey or lemon juice (honey if you have dry skin, lemon juice for oily skin)


  • If you are not using already ground coffee beans, finely grind the beans in a coffee grinder.
  • In a bowl, mix the 4 tbsp. of ground coffee with 4 tbsp. of cocoa powder.
  • Add the 8 tbsp. of the dairy product and stir everything together until it becomes a smooth paste.
  • Add in the 2 tbsp. of either honey or lemon juice (if you are using honey, warm it up in the microwave so that it mixes better).

How to use it:

Apply the paste to your face and neck and let it dry. Pat a wet wash cloth on your face to help loosen the mask and then rinse it off with warm water.

Use this mask once a week. You can store the leftovers for a couple of days in the refrigerator.
