Everybody wants whiter teeth, but not everybody is willing to pony up the cash and endure what can be a painful experience for professional teeth whitening. Here are some natural ways to whiten teeth at home that won’t leave you feeling like your teeth just got pulled.

Strawberries – Smash up some strawberries and brush with them to promote whiter teeth. The vitamin C found in strawberries helps to remove plaque buildup and the malic acid removes stains, revealing a whiter, brighter smile.

Rinsing with Water – Not everyone keeps a toothbrush on them all the time and that’s okay. Simply rinsing with water after eating or drinking will help to prevent teeth from becoming stained.

Hydrogen Peroxide – Mix equal parts hydrogen peroxide and water and swish the mixture in your mouth for at least a full minute. Hydrogen peroxide is a bleaching agent and also makes a great anti-bacterial agent, ridding the mouth of germs.

Gum with xylitol – Xylitol is a natural sweetener found in gum that helps to prevent plaque. It also increases saliva production, which is a great way to clean and promote whiter teeth naturally.

Crunchy Veggies – Their naturally abrasive texture is safe for teeth and helps to rid the tooth’s surface of stains, making teeth appear whiter.

Some may have advised the use of baking soda as a way to whiten teeth – while this may be true, the abrasiveness of baking soda can actually result in removing the tooth’s enamel, a substance that will never grow back once gone and can cause tooth sensitivity. The acidic nature of lemon or orange peels will have the same effect, even though they have been recommended as natural ways to whiten teeth.
