Winter Hair Colouring Tips From Blyss Salon
If you want to shake off of the winter blahs by updating your look with a new winter hair colour, you should walk into the salon with a plan. We asked Senior Colourist Amanda Quarshie from Blyss Salon for her top tips to know when heading to the salon to change your hair colour this season.
When we asked Quarshie what the hottest colours for the season are she suggested looking at yourself and not necessarily the runways. She said, “The key to beautiful colour in any season, is a colour that flatters your skin tone, texture and haircut. Keep in mind; your skin tone is a bit paler in the winter and more sun kissed in the summer. With that said, adding highlights or shadows to bring out texture to your cut or brighten up your fridge to draw attention to your eyes, may be very fun.”
Getting hot highlights like your favourite celebrity might be cool, but you need to also remember that they have a stylist putting every strand of hair in place to accentuate their highlight. Quarshie recommends that you “Remember to always talk to your color specialist about what you want your maintenance to be. This will help decide how light or dark a color to go, but also give guidance as to where to place high lights or low lights as accents through your hair.”
She says the most common mistake people make when dying their hair is unrealistic expectations of what it will look like. She says “Pictures are great, however you must take into consideration your hair texture and color when you are picking pictures for reference. DO NOT RUSH! Give yourself time when visiting the salon! Your hair can be your best or worst accessory. These things take time- the coloring process; treatments, cutting, shaping and blow drying all take time. We want you to look your best!”
