Homemade Face Masks Using Thanksgiving Leftovers

Canadians are celebrating Thanksgiving this weekend with a delicious home cooked feast. Before you throw out all of your Thanksgiving leftovers, check out these cute face masks that you can make using the uneaten food.

Cranberry Face Mask

Cranberries are a natural exfoliant, so applying them to your face will leave your skin feeling fresh and smooth. Puree ¾ of cranberries and ¾ of seedless grapes together in a blender. Add 3 tsp. of lemon juice, 1 envelope of gelatin and 1 tsp. of oat powder and blend until it becomes a paste. Put it in the fridge for at least 45 minutes. Let it warm and apply to clean dry skin. You can leave it on for approximately 15 minutes to see results.

Thyme and Fennel Seed Cleanser

Don’t throw out those extra herbs and spices. These two products are known for their gentle cleansing and toning properties. Mix 2 springs of crumbled fresh thyme and 2 teaspoons of crush fennel seeds in a bowl. Cover with ½ cup of boiling water and the juice of half a lemon. Steep for 15 minutes. Strain the mixture and store in a jar in the fridge. You can dab the mixture on your face like a cleanser using a cotton ball and rinse.

Pumpkin Facial

Pumpkin is filled with loads of nutrients and vitamins that are great for your skin. They are a popular item on spa menus. Mix 2 cups of pureed cooked pumpkin or canned pumpkin with 4 tablespoons of unflavoured yogurt, 4 tablespoons of honey, 1/3 cup of ground almonds and ¼ teaspoon of olive oil. Apply to clean moist skin. Keep skin moist by sitting in warm bath or shower for 5 – 10 minutes with facial applied. Rinse and moisturize.

Carrot Mask

The vitamins in carrots help your skin fight wrinkles and tone your face. Boil 2 – 3 large carrots and mash to a creamy consistency. Add 2 tbsp of honey and 1 tbsp of olive oil and mix. For added moisture you can add more olive oil or half a mashed avocado.  Add water to get a smooth consistency. Wash your face with warm water. Apply mask and let it set for 20 minutes or until it begins to harden. Rinse your face with warm water.
