Supermodel beauty secrets

CandiceSwanepoelCropIn Canada last week to celebrate the opening of Victoria’s Secret’s newest location at Toronto’s Sherway Gardens, we caught up with South African hottie Candice Swanepoel to talk beauty tips and find out which makeup must-haves she’s carrying around in her purse right now.

Real Style: Have you always been interested in beauty?

Candice Swanepoel: Since I was a little girl I was always really interested in beauty and taking care of myself so I’m definitely in the right industry. I think fragrance is something that’s particularly important to every woman and kind of a signature of who you are. I think it’s really important to pick a new fragrance for summer and enjoy it.

RSN: What is the most important beauty advice that you got growing up?

CS: I’d have to say that it’s never to sleep with your makeup on. My mom taught me from a very young age to take care of my skin and not to tan too much. That’s my number one tip.

RSN: What about throughout your career as a model — any expert tips you’ve learned along the way?

CS: Because I travel so much it’s really important for me to stay moisturized. I always have rosewater spray with me wherever I am. It’s very relieving.

RSN: If you were stranded on a deserted island which top three beauty products could you not live without?

CS: Definitely sunscreen, lip balm and conditioner.

RSN: As a Victoria’s Secret Angel I’m sure you’ve had an opportunity to try almost everything in the store. What are your favourite Victoria’s Secret beauty items?

CS: We have a new fragrance for summer called Dream Angels Forever, which has a mixture of fruity and floral notes and that’s my new favourite.

RSN: What about other products you can’t live without?

CS: My favourite lip balm for moisture is Palmer’s Cocoa Butter. I can’t live without it. I try and keep my beauty regime pretty simple — no products that are too strong. I lean towards more natural products.

RSN: What’s in your purse right now?

CS: I always have concealer for tired circles. There’s also a Victoria’s Secret lip pencil in a coffee colour that I love. I use that with lip balm. I don’t use a lot of lipgloss when I’m not working. Lastly, I have a Victoria’s Secret beauty palette that came out a few months ago called Very Sexy Now that has a very animalistic feel and has eyeshadows in shades of browns and coppers — it’s a really great eye palette to have.
