Top Tips for Great Summer Skin
by Bethany North, guest blogger
Yes, boys and girls, summer is definitely upon us. But what you may find is that the humidity and heat are causing your skin to become oily and breakout continuously. If that is the case, there are quite a few remedies that you can use to clear your skin up right away… just in time for the summer season!
1. Exfoliate! Exfoliation should be at the top of your list, regardless of your skin type. Of course, you do need to choose an exfoliant that is appropriate to your skin type, such as a gentle lactic acid scrub for sensitive skin. Exfoliating 2 to 3 times per week will remove the buildup of dead skin cells so that breakouts are much less likely, and your skin will look radiant.
2. Cleanse Twice Daily: Cleansing twice on a daily basis is imperative because it will remove the deep buildup of dirt and impurities in your complexion. But it is not that easy. You must choose a cleanser that is not only right for your skin type, but free from harsh and irritating ingredients, namely benzoyl peroxide. Instead look for cleansers with gentle acids as the main ingredients, such as salicylic or glycolic acid. As mentioned above, make sure to use lactic acid if you have highly sensitive skin, which will remove built-up dirt to prevent clogged pores.
3. Moisturize: This may seem counterproductive, but even if you have oily skin, you must moisturize. If you don’t moisturize every time that you cleanse, your skin will dry out (even if it is oily) and cause more oil to be produced as a result.
4. Forgo Makeup: If you are comfortable, it is best to skip makeup every once in a while, especially when at the beach or pool. For minimal coverage, use a tinted moisturizer or a powdered mineral makeup foundation, which will be much better for your skin than a heavy liquid foundation in the summer season.
These simple steps will give you the tools you need to have clear and radiant skin just in time for summer!
