Botox Alternatives – Expert Skin Care Advice From Dr. Solish
With all of this talk of young celebrities using Botox before they are 30, we wanted to know if there are any alternatives to the treatment out there. We turned to our skin care expert Dr. Solish for his expert tips on alternative treatments to Botox such as Thermage. Dr. Solish gave us his expert tips on the benefits of both.
When it comes to smoothing out and tightening the skin on the forehead and cheeks, Thermage seems to be a great treatment. Is it a good alternative treatment to Botox?
Thermage is a medical device that uses radiofrequency to tighten the skin. It looks like a laser but actually does not use any light like most lasers making it safe on all skin types and colours. By heating the skin with radiofrequency it can stimulate the collagen to tighten and result in a lifting effect of the skin. Results take up to 4 months to be visible and can last for up to 18-24 months. Botox is used to relax muscled that cause the formation of lines and wrinkles. Botox would be recommended more for lines on the forehead, frown area or crows feet. It can also offer some help for lines around the mouth and neck. Therefore if one is looking for more of a general tightening and mild lifting of the skin Thermage would be something that may be more effective for them. If there are specific lines that bother a person then Botox or fillers may be more beneficial.
