 WHAT’S HAPPENING
CANADIAN MUSIC WEEK
May 19 - 23
For 38 years, Canadian Music Week has been helping put a spotlight on the expression and growth of the country’s music, media and entertainment industries. Part concert series, part awards shows and part trade exposition, CMW showcases the best the country has to offer. Over the course of 5 days, hundreds of bands will perform at more than 40 live music venues in downtown Toronto.
ILLUSIONS: THE ART 0F MAGIC
Until May 18
Magic is an artform unto itself, but it wasn’t just the death-defying tricks and daring escapes that drew in the crowds. The magician’s ability to promote themself played a large role as well, and part of that was done though postcards, advertisements and wall-sized posters. 55 of these are now
on display until May 18th at the Art Gallery of Ontario, and will be alongside photographs, films, documents and ephemera. You can see artwork promoting everyone from Harry Houdini to Adelaide Herrmann and William Ellsworth Robinson.
 HOT DOCS
April 30 – May 10
Toronto is well known as being one of the film capitals of the world, and part of that is thanks to the annual documentary festival known as Hot Docs. The festival is now in its 27th year, and will feature over 200 films from around the world.
