  Mana Mansour’s
Guide for the perfect closet edit
BY HEIDI HOFSTAD
You’ve probably seen and heard style expert Mana Mansour (find her on Instagram @manamansour) dishing fashion advice on The Marilyn Denis Show, etalk, CP24 Breakfast, or CTV Morning Live. Here she shares tips on spring cleaning your closet with Real Style—out with the old, make room for the new styles of the season!
On what to keep:
“Every woman should have a great fitting moto jacket, mid to high rise denim that flatters your figure, a ver- satile piece done in an animal print such as leopard or reptile (can be a blouse, skirt or dress) and sleek black pointy-toe pumps that are both sexy and comfortable. These pieces will stand the test of time and look great with a variety of different pieces you might already have.”
On what to toss:
“First off, I recommend women analyze their closets based on how many times they’ve worn their pieces in the last year, as well as whether or not it still fits. If it’s been one year or longer since the last time you’ve worn the item, it may be time to re-evaluate. Same goes for pieces that no longer fit or flatter your shape. If it’s an easy fix, then make that trek to your altera- tions store...anything else and it’s just not really worth it. Trends I would love to see go: unflattering dad sneakers, micro-sunglasses, cropped t-shirts, sloppy oversized sweatshirts and sweaters (Ariana Grande, I am looking at you!).”
On what to add:
“Try adding pieces done in either neon and patent. Also, ‘80s silhouettes are coming back in full force, so think strong shoulders, oversized blazers and slouchy pants stuffed in boots.
On how to keep your closet up-to-date:
“Invest in classic pieces, but add touches of trends (can be through a bag, great jewelry, or a fabulous boot). Also, FIT FIT FIT! Can’t stress this enough—if it’s tailored and well-suited to your figure, it will never go out of style. Finally use social media for inspira- tion, but not for comparison. Follow women in your age range and body type, whose style you’d love to emulate.”
On one piece she would never part with:
“A black, sequined top that I found five years ago at a vintage store in Toronto, that has since closed. I love how it can be worn either as a top or a cropped jacket (it opens in the back fully), and the tassel sequins al- ways bring a smile to my face!”
On a celebrity closet to envy:
“Not much of a traditional celebrity, but fashionista and model Olivia Palermo’s closet will always be my number one. She manages to always look timeless, yet still fashion-forward. I also love how she mixes femi- nine with masculine pieces in an effortless way.”
