Lana Parrilla
“She started off as a villain, a very closed- minded, dark-hearted, sinister and vengeful woman. Through adopting a baby boy and be- coming a mother, and wanting that relationship and it being the most important relationship in her life, that is what has changed her. It just woke Regina up to making different choices in her life and wanting more for herself,” she tells us.
The actress goes on to describe character de- velopments that took place toward the end of the previous season, and the season before. “At the end of Season 5 and the beginning of Season 6, they split themselves. There were two of them, and it was done through this Dr. Jekyll and Hyde serum that kind of brought the darkness out of Regina,” she says.
For Season 7, Parrilla’s Evil Queen/Regina has received a character makeover. “You can ex- pect them to speci cally look different, maybe different accents or a different sort of demeanour or energy. They are facing new challenges. They are currently under a curse, so they don’t know
who they are,” she tells us.
Does she dress as the Evil Queen when she’s
off set as well? It seems that vampy, Gothic ele- ments have subtly left their in uence on Parilla’s wardrobe as well. In her own words, her person- al style is “sexy chic, with an edge.”
“I can go super classic and elegant, but in my day to day, it has a little street rock edge as well. When you’re a woman, it’s nice to get dressed up and show a little shoulder, décolletage,” she says.
While the small screen has her now, Parrilla would love to take on the big screen with some of her own star favourites.
“I would love to work with Glenn Close, Ellen Burstyn and Martin Scorsese, if possible. He’s one of my favourite directors, especially being from New York,” she says.
Whether her next project takes her to the small or big screen, we’ll be keeping an eye out for Parrilla, who proves that playing the bad girl gone good is a perfectly good thing.
