Our eye has been on one trend in particular this summer, and as we told you in our summer Real Style issue, flounce is worth every ounce as big, bold ruffles make a statement you can’t ignore. Eva Longoria recently stepped out in this white jumpsuit with a sculptural peplum that reminded us why our feathers were ruffled over this raging runway trend.
Ruffle And Tough
Don’t think girly, dainty or lacy when you hear the word ruffle any longer. This season, they’re bolder and sharper with added volume and structure, and appearing on garments from skirts, to jackets, to dresses and beyond. Acne Studios and Balenciaga were just two of the countless designers who took a little ruffle a long way for spring 2013.
How To Wear
For a simple, easy to find in stores and wearable spin on the most addictive ruffles since rippled chips and dip, opt for Eva’s waist-skimming sharp peplum style. Find a top with a waist ruffle and turn up the volume, or a skirt with an equally high-impact flounce at the hem. These ruffles are pretty, but not too pretty, so stick to sleek silhouettes on your other pieces and sporty add-ons.
