The man behind the red-soled shoe has brought his iconic work to Toronto! Famed shoe designer, Christian Louboutin, has chosen Toronto as the location of his second shoe exhibition and we had the privilege of checking it out! The thematic display of his most colourful and creative creations is open to the public today at the Design Exchange museum and is set to stay until September 15, 2013.
Mr. Louboutin himself worked in conjunction with the museum to create the spectacular display of 250-plus luxury shoes! The exhibition celebrates the evolution of his career as he has consistently pushed the boundary of practicality and avant-garde shoe design. Thematic displays group shoes by his key inspirations for shoe design, revealing the artistry and whimsicality of his work.
Standouts included a playful carousel boasting a range of shoes inspired by his travels, and an abstracted form of the iconic red sole acts as a stage to represent his inspiration from the showgirl. If that weren’t enough, the stage of showgirl inspired shoes directs viewers’ attention to a performance area where a hologram of burlesque performer, Dita Von Teese, puts on a show!
Louboutin also wanted to enlighten visitors about the design process, so an accurate, to scale, recreation of his working Atelier is featured in the museum.
