When Alexandre Desplat’s “River” started playing, models in close-cropped black wigs began making their exits from behind wooden hotel doors that lined the carpeted runway at Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2013, creating the illusion that these Old Hollywood beauties were sauntering down the hallway of a chic hotel in Paris. The models all left their hotel room doors ajar to show glimpses of black and white films playing in the background and Louis Vuitton luggage filling the rooms. Models wore slip dresses, pajama pants and elegant coats down the runway, as if making a quick but elegant jaunt from their rooms to retrieve a bucket of ice for the Veuve Clicquot that was obviously freshly popped back in their rooms. At the end of the show, Kate Moss, who was totally recognizable even in her black wig, came out wearing a sheer floor-length gown with intricate embroidery. If we needed to be reminded that sometimes it’s all about dressing up just to stay in for the night, Marc Jacobs definitely helped us make our plans for this coming weekend.
