If there was one part of the body that saw extra work at gyms worldwide this year, it was the abs. Sure, it’s always been a girl’s dream to have a flat-as-a-board waistline, but fashion made that even more necessary with one of the biggest trends of the year- exposed midriffs. The little gap of skin exposed by the combo of high waists and crop tops or bralets aimed to keep it classy by keeping hemlines modest and the overall look more retro than raunchy.
Runways hadn’t seen so much stomach flesh for seasons and seasons (or maybe the 80′s), and designers like Emilio Pucci, Dolce & Gabbana and Proenza Schouler showed us how the look could be sophisticated with the right styling. High waist pencil skirts and dainty bralets gave an air of a slightly rebellious, sexy fifties housewife. No mad men around in summer 2012, with these sexy looks.
Midriff You Dare
We were fans from the get-go, showing you how to wear the look many times in 2012. Unfortunately, the 6-pack was up to you. While celebs from Disney darlings Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez to glam fashion icons like Gwyneth Paltrow all flaunted their amazing bods in the trend, seeing Kim Kardashian sporting it recently has us wondering if the look may need to be packed away for a while.
