Wear These Colours To Brighten Winter Days

Black- so slimming, so sleek, so…snooze!  This is why we fell in love with these stunning  coloured frocks on the biggest fall /winter Red Carpets. Winter tends to be the season when we rely most heavily on the inky hue, and the result? A one-dimensional style that doesn’t do much to brighten a cold winter day. No wonder we’re always so relieved when the spring colour trends come along. But now there’s no need to wait! Brighten things up with an addictive shade and you’ll find you’ve never looked hotter. We’ve got our five favourite, winter-wearable shades from the collections we coveted the most.

J Brand, $226, Shopbop

1. Deep red or wine shades, whether burgundy, oxblood, bordeaux, maroon or merlot, were the biggest trend to hit runways for the season. In so many variations, everyone can find a shade to flatter. We’re partial to the deep oxblood hues, in luxe pieces like skinny leather pants or rich tall boots.

2. Pale blue was as light as snow (almost) or a perfect pale winter sky, on runways from Pucci and Oscar De La Renta to Matthew Williamson. A gorgeous tuxedo jacket or a sheer blouse can be paired with white, or set against more light blue for a mod, chilly look.

Juicy Couture Luxe Rocks Scarlett, $198, Juicy Couture

3. Emerald green (along with our sexy friends Hunter and Forest) is one of the hottest colours to play with this winter, and is an especially chic alternative to black. Equally deep and much more rich, deep green should be worn on decadent pieces like high-impact bags, heels, dresses and coats.

4. Nude. Glorious. Especially as it was done at Jil Sander in minimalist shapes, breathtaking coats and sexy dresses. With a pretty, natural makeup look, you will freeze the entire room in this understated shade that’s on-trend and subtle.

5. Royal and sapphire blue are standout shades with royalty at their roots. Opt for dramatic pieces in the deep blue shades, calling on the texture and luxury of resplendent fabrics like velvet and brocade.
