As we mentioned earlier this week, Nicolas Ghesquiere has decided to leave Balenciaga after 15 years. Though both the designer and Balenciaga said Nicolas’ departure from the fashion was a mutual decision, we still don’t know the whole reason behind the departure. Nevertheless, Karl Kagerfeld definitely has an idea of what the designer should do next.
“Perhaps Nicolas wants to have his own label, which is not a bad idea,” Lagerfeld told Reuters last night at the Paris launch of his Little Black Jacket exhibition. “And it would not be a bad idea if somebody such as Bernard Arnault would invest in a new label because there are so many old labels [within LVMH].”
The fashion world has definitely had some exciting changes in the past few months, with Raf Simons making his debut at Dior and Hedi Slimane unveiling his first collection for Saint Laurent. We can hardly wait to see where Nicolas goes next. We’re also looking forward to finding out whether his muse du jour, Kristen Stewart, will follow him.
But what will become of Balenciaga? A ton of names are being tossed around the fashion industry as rumoured frontrunners to take over the reigns: Alexander Wang, Joseph Altuzarra, Christopher Kane, and Ghesquiere’s first assistant, Natacha Ramsay.
