Elizabeth Taylor's Yellow Wedding Dress In Liz & Dick To Spark Trend?

This Sunday, November 25th, fashionistas and Elizabeth Taylor fans the world over will all be tuning into Lifetime to catch Lindsay Lohan and Grant Buckler in the highly anticipated made-for-TV movie Liz & Dick. In the photo above, Lindsay and Grant are on the left re-enacting Elizabeth and Richard’s 1964 secret wedding in Montreal, while the real Liz and Dick are on the right. The film tells the tale of Liz and Dick’s passionate and tumultuous relationship. The iconic Hollywood couple starred in two movies together, Cleoptara (1963) and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966), and even married twice, first in 1964 (ending in 1974) and then again in 1975 (ending in 1976).

Although Elizabeth married 8 times in total, Burton is the only man she married twice, and he is also considered her most famous love. Although critics are predicting that Lindsay Lohan will reignite her career with this performance, we have a feeling that even if the movie flops, the yellow dress that Elizabeth wore to her 1964 wedding to Burton, which was replicated for Lindsay for the film, will spawn a new generation of women who opt to wear colour as opposed to white for their wedding day.

After all, Liz’s first wedding to Richard is the stuff of Hollywood legend. Less than 10 days after Elizabeth Taylor split from her fourth husband, Eddie Fisher, she married her Cleopatra costar, Richard Burton, wearing a yellow chiffon dress, along with an elaborate floral headpiece. The couple married at the Ritz Carlton in Montreal, after Toronto authorities refused to recognize their divorce papers from Mexico. Elizabeth stayed married to Burton for 10 years, her longest marriage out of all 8!

Movies have a tendency to set fashion trends into action. Just look at what Anna Karenina did for winter 2012-13 with regards to opulence and fur accessories.

Besides, Hollywood ladies are leading the way towards coloured wedding dresses, so it’s just a matter of time before the rest of North America follows suit. Jessica Biel kicked off the trend by opting for a pink dress for her wedding to Justin Timberlake, and Amber Tamblyn, pictured on the left, even wore a canary yellow wedding dress with flowers in her hair just like Liz to her wedding to comedian David Cross this fall.
