Christopher Kane is parting ways with Versus, sparking rumours that the designer will be appointed creative director of Balenciaga. Although Balenciaga has yet to comment on the rumour, French publication Le Nouvel Observateur perhaps made the mistake of announcing on Saturday that Christopher had accepted the new position, despite there actually being no official truth to the rumours. Nevertheless, Balenciaga will have to appoint a new creative director soon. Current creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere is set to leave the house on November 30, which is less than 2 weeks away.
Besides Christopher, other rumoured frontrunners for the Balenciaga creative director position are Alexander Wang, Joseph Altuzarra and Bouchra Jarrar. Kane seems to be the favourite, even if he is trying his best to avoid the press at the current time.
“Rumours surrounding Christopher Kane’s appointment as creative director of Balenciaga are unfounded,” a representative for the designer told British Vogue earlier today.
Even after denying his involvement with Balenciaga, we can’t help but wonder if Christopher is fairly close to revealing the news. News broke today that Christopher is parting ways with Versus, the sister line to Versace. The designer has been the creative director of Versus since 2009, but he and the label have decided to end their partnership after just a few short years together. The timing seems a little to perfect if you ask us!
