72-year-old Chinese grandfather Liu Xianping is taking the fashion world by storm as a women’s clothing model. Yes, you heard right. Not only is Liu beginning his modelling career in his early 70s, he’s also giving models like Gisele Bundchen and Coco Rocha a run for their money by modelling women’s clothes. It all began when Liu was helping his granddaughter, who runs an e-commerce site, unpack some clothes and he gave her his own thoughts on how to put outfits together. One thing led to another, a camera came out and suddenly a new supermodel was born. And we thought it was impressive that Kate Moss still models in her late 30s!
Liu Xianping’s granddaughter, who goes by the name Ms. Lv, launched her e-commerce site with 5 other friends in the spring of 2012, and they’ve seen sales skyrocket since Liu came on board as the face of the site.
This isn’t exactly a new trend. Lanvin used real people — including some with gray hair — for their Fall 2012 ad campaign instead of relying on trained models to sell the line. Check out our post on Lanvin’s real models here: Lanvin Uses Real People In Fall 2012 Campaign.
The best part about Liu Xianping’s modelling photos is that he looks like he’s having a great time, and isn’t that what fashion should be all about?
