Guess is celebrating their 30th anniversary with the return of the supermodel that made them famous, Claudia Schiffer. Schiffer is back in a series of black and white ads for the fashion and accessory brand to help them mark three decades in business.
Guess is updating the ads shot in 1989 by Ellen von Unwerth (pictured left) featuring Schiffer wearing a lace bustier and hoop earrings with windswept hair. Guess CEO Paul Marciano told WWD that those ads were important for a number of reasons. He said, “She was a turning point of Guess, she was a turning point of Ellen’s career, Guess was a turning point of a life for Claudia. [The single shot] made her career in my view, and that made Guess a different company. Everybody talked about the Guess Girl.”
In the updated ads (below), Claudia is again wearing a lace bustier. This time with skinny jeans while sitting on a Vespa and in another she is perched on a table in flower printed jeans with big bouffant hair. The black and white hues are reminiscent of that first image.
Guess has also released a 15 piece collection in celebration of the date. Pieces include a leopard print blouse, cut-off jeans, and a gingham top inspired by another of Guess’ ads this time featuring Eva Herzigova.
