Top American designers have started showcasing their Fall 2012 collections at New York Fashion Week. Here is a look at some of the shows from our favourite designers:
The BCBG collection was dominated by colourblocked looks in rich fall hues including rust, burgundy, and navy. Every look from day dresses to trenches to blouses to evening wear had a geometric colourblock pattern. The pieces themselves seemed very light. The airy fabrics on skirts and dresses moved with the models. Lush furs made an appearance on bags, coats and vests giving the collection a rich feel. Through the patchwork look of the pieces, some critics felt the line had a sportswear meets boho feel. Watch the BCBG fashion show here:
Mechanics work wear inspired this youthful Fall collection from Cynthia Rowley. You could feel the influence in the jumpsuits and work jackets worn by the models. Interesting prints in a variety of colours transformed these pieces from their humble beginnings to fashion fabulous. Models stayed warm in oversize pea coats and turtlenecks on almost every outfit. Many of the garments had a relaxed feel such as oversize sweaters, shirt dresses and easy to wear sheaths. Women will embrace Cynthia’s real life approach to these pieces that you can slip on and go with minimal accessories. Watch a backstage interview with Cynthia’s here:
For Fall, Som created a modern collection that works from the real life to red carpet. Som developed new silhouettes using architectural shapes such as wide sleeves, oversize outerwear and peplum. His hope of combining hard and soft in the collection was fulfilled as he mixed structured pieces with light organza and silk. Whether it was a lush fur jacket, sheer sheath dress or colourful pant suit all of Som’s looks felt chic and feminine without being in your face. It was sexy without showing too much skin. We imagine many women being drawn to Som’s collection in their everyday life. See photos from the show here.
